The marks of the Avro Lancaster

Here is a list of the different marks, which are often converted from
existing versions (in post-war times too).
MK is "Mark", means version (MK I => Avro Lancaster I)

Avro 683 Manchester III

Prototypes of the Lancaster,
basically Manchester with enlarged wing-span
and re-engined with four
1.145 PS (854 kW) Rolls-Royce Merlins X.
( 2 machines - BT 308 & DG 595 )

Avro Lancaster I

Production variants of 683 with
1.280 PS (955 kW) Merlin XX,
1.460 PS (1.089 kW) Merlin 22, or
1.640 PS (1.223 kW) Merlin 24 engines.

Avro Lancaster I ( Special )

MK I, modified to accommodate
    -  8.000 lb (3.633 kg)
    -12.000 lb (5.443 kg) "Tallboy"
    -22.000 lb (9.979 kg) "Grand Slam"
bomb loads, therefore radar and
other parts were removed.
(only conversions).

Avro Lancaster I ( FE )

The Far East version of the Lancaster
was built to equip the "Tiger Force" for the
proposed bombing of Japan
(only conversions).

Post-war Lancaster for on-air-survey
(only conversions).

Lancaster with 1.650 PS (1.231 kW)
Bristol Hercules VI or
1.735 PS (1.294 kW) Hercules XVI
radial engines that got many improvements.

Improved production variants with
1.460 PS (1.089 kW), or
1.640 PS (1.223 kW)
Packard Merlin 28, 38, oder 224
straight engines.

Sea Rescue Aircraft built by Cuncliffe-Owen
